Early childhood is not only a critical stage in a child’s cognitive, emotional and social development; it is also a significant time for language acquisition.  It is a point where CPF can expand its advocacy focus from K to 12+ to birth to Grade 12+.

In this brief you will learn about the value of introducing languages to children during their formative years before school starts. This is a key moment and opportunity for CPF to ensure that there is equitable access for all Canadian children to early language learning as part of the Government of Canada’s promised national early learning and childcare system.

THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS!!!

This year, TiBert le Voyageur will be providing outdoor performances in June 2022.  The Cultural will reach over 2,000 students across the province!

FRENCH CULTURAL TOURS

The Cultural Tours consist of visits to schools throughout the province. A French Cultural entertainer provides a combination of live performances and interactive workshops. Most participants are French Immersion (FI) students, however, in locations where FI programs are small and are in dual-track schools, the tours may also be provided to students taking French in the English Program. The French Cultural Entertainer adapts activities to the different levels of comprehension, as they go from school to school. Cultural activities may vary, and may include, but may not be exclusive to writing, drawing, theatre, music, comedy, cartooning, and storytelling.

CERTIFICATES OF MERIT

This project serves to recognize FSL high school students for their efforts, develop pride in their FSL accomplishments and provide a sense of achievement.

CPF-MB promotes the availability of the Certificates of Merit for French Immersion and French in the English program, and provides them to:

  • High school graduates with 7 – 13 French Immersion credits;
  • High school graduates who have continued their French (English program) studies through to Grade 12.

This year, more than 400 FSL students will receive certificates!

Fête du Soleil begins on July 4, 2022 and is free of charge for CPF Manitoba members.

FRENCH SUMMER CAMP

Fête du Soleil

Fête du Soleil is a French summer virtual camp, held from Monday to Friday each week during the summer months, for French Immersion students, ages 6-10 years.  Activities are delivered both live and pre-recorded.  By delivering this program virtually, there is potential to reach a larger number of students across the province.

Activities include conversation, arts and crafts, creative drama, choral sessions, dancing, music, and many other games.

DRAMA EXTRAVAGANZAS

The French Immersion Drama Extravaganzas are workshops that are facilitated by a French cultural specialist for French Immersion students in Grades 7-12 in schools across Manitoba. All aspects of the workshops integrate cultural and artistic elements of learning and using French.

On the day of the workshop, students are provided with the script of an original “unfinished” play and then write their own conclusion. The play is then performed in front of their peers and/or other students in their school.

The 2022 Drama Extravaganzas will reach more than 300 students across Manitoba, including rural and northern areas of the province.

This year, presented by the dynamic duo, Laura Lussier & Alison Palmer!

In 2022, over 8,700 students participated at the school and divisional levels of competition.

CONCOURS D'ART ORATOIRE

Concours d’art oratoire is a prominent French speaking competition for French-Second-Language (FSL) and French-First- Language (FFL) students. It provides a valuable French language learning experience that builds useful life skills and, complements Manitoba curricula.

This competition includes classroom, school and divisional levels of competition that lead to the provincial finals.  FSL and FFL students in grades 3 – 12 participate in categories dependent on the program or course in which they are enroled and, on the level of their French language skills.  Winners of the grade 11/12 categories at the provincial level have the opportunity to compete at the National level of competition and the opportunity to win prizes and/or scholarships to postsecondary institutions.

FRENCH: AN OPPORTUNITY OF A LIFETIME!

This initiative targets the issue of attrition. French: An Opportunity of a Lifetime! encourages students in grades 7-12 who are enrolled in French (English Program) courses and the French Immersion program, to continue studying in French.

This project aims to create interest and enthusiasm for bilingualism so students see the value of learning French as an additional language.

This initiative also includes presentations for parents, teachers and students. Through these presentations, many possibilities and career options are explored for those who choose to continue to learn French as an additional language.

Typically, presentations for this project reach audiences in excess of 1,500 people every year.
