Le Concours d’art oratoire is an annual French public-speaking event for schools throughout the province. Classroom, school and then divisional-level competitions lead to the provincial competition, which is held every year at l’Université de Saint-Boniface (USB) in May.
Concours d’art oratoire is open to students from Grades 3-12 and includes the categories of Early Immersion, Late Immersion, French: Communication and Culture (Core/Basic), French: Communication and Culture (Extended/Enriched/Advanced), Français and Impromptu.
All students at the school level of competition receive a Certificate of Participation and at the divisional level, winners in each category are awarded ribbons for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
First place winners from the Grades 11 & 12 categories (excluding Impromptu) also have the opportunity to participate in the National competition, in Ottawa in June. There, scholarships of varying amounts are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners, some in excess of $30,000. In addition, $1,000 entrance scholarships are awarded to each National Concours participant who attends and competes, but does not place in the top three of their category.
